COMBO TOUR: PRISON ISLAND +
STONE TOWN

TOUR CODE: ZT-013725
09:00 – Departure from your hotel
🐢 Prison Island (Changuu) – History and Giant Tortoises
One of the most fascinating places on Zanzibar is Prison Island (Changuu). The island got its name during British rule, when a prison was built here — though it was never actually used for that purpose.
Before that, Arab slave traders used the island to hold enslaved people before selling them, which gave rise to the island’s ominous name.
Today, the island is home to a sanctuary of giant Aldabra tortoises, brought here from the Seychelles in the 19th century. Some weigh over 200 kg and are more than 150 years old! You’ll have the chance to feed, pet, and photograph these gentle giants. You may also spot peacocks and small antelopes roaming freely.

🏛️ Afternoon – Guided Walk Through Stone Town
After lunch, the tour continues in Stone Town, the cultural and historical heart of Zanzibar. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a maze of narrow alleys, lively markets, mosques, and ornately carved doors.
You’ll visit iconic landmarks including the House of Wonders, Arab Fort, former slave market, cathedrals, and many mosques. With over 500 unique examples of Swahili door craftsmanship, Stone Town is an open-air museum of architecture and culture.
It’s also the perfect place to shop for souvenirs, spices, and handcrafted goods.
